New release for Transparent clock and weather

Version 0.57 of the Transparent clock & weather application has been release on the Google Play website. This new version includes some fixes and lock screen support (please note that version 4.2 or higher is required for this). In addition, the system information panel and next event are by default turned off.

Note about the System information and Next event display

To display the system information panel go to settings, Appearance settings, Advanced settings and check the Display system information option.

To display the next event go to settings, Time & date settings and check the Display next event option.

Note about optimizations

Optimizations are disabled  by default. If you want to enable them, check the Enable optimizations option under Advanced settings. Note that on some devices (such as Nexus 4) this might cause the time to stop updating. If you experience this problem please turn optimizations option off.

Here is a complete list of this version's release notes.

[new] Added support for lock screen widgets (requires version 4.2 or higher)
[fix] Fixed long display of next event
[fix] German language corrections (thanks to P.K.)
[fix] Swedish language corrections (thanks to Leif L.)
[fix] Fixed battery and alarm icon display for dark themes
[fix] Fixed state abbreviation bug
[chg] Do not reset custom colors on widget skin selection

In case you have a problem please send us an email. Posting a bad review/comment on the Google Play website will not result in a faster fix of the problem.

  1. Hi,
first i'd like to tell you i really like your weather widget the most of all i ever tested.
There are only two things i hope you can add in future versions.
    1. In german ways of writing dates most available formats look not really pretty. maybe you can add one more date format like:
Thu. 1 June 2013 (day abrev. no leading zero on day, full month and year - like that example without any more dots and comas)
    2. i dont know if its possible but maybe its possible to add a slightly more detailed weather service.
here in austria where i live i always check weather via - http://www.wetter.at/ -
it has a detailed weather info for morning , noon, afternoon and night on present day, comming days are like your weather info.
also it has an info on how much rain/snow you can await in mm/h (maybe inch/hour in english)

    1. I will add more options for the date (as you noted above) in the next update. Regarding weather forecast servers, I will try implementing an alternate weather server that should be more accurate than the current one.

  2. Hi,

I have problems with it, list below:
    1. My location: never worked, simply it doesn't identify the current location. It doesn't matter if GPS is enabled, Wifi, 3G, etc.
    2. Since recent updates (1 or 2) the location doesn't change anymore. I traveled around the country but it remained stuck at the manual city (I was trying to get the weather prospect for a location on my route)
    3. Once it identifies by itself a location, it cannot be removed from the list of current locations. I mean we have the manual list and the detected list; the detected ones remain stuck in the listing without any possibility to remove them. It impacts when viewing weather forecast for multiple locations (slide to left or right) and I get duplicates this way.

Please also clarify on your website:
    a. what optimizations tick actually does, what's the impact
    b. lock screen support: what do you mean by 4.2 or higher? Can I use this feature on my phone?

I'm using a Samsung Duos S7562, Android ICS 4.0.4, not rooted.

    1. The problem with the locations is strange. There could be something wrong with the setup. Please restart your phone and then reset the application (manage apps, select application, Clear data). Remove and add the widget to the home screen, then follow the directions to set it up again.

For lock screen support, you need at least Android version 4.2. YOur current version, 4.0.4 does not support lock screen widgets.

What the Enable optimizations option does is simply disable all functionality of the widget when the screen turns off (updating of the time, weather and location).

    2. Hi,

thank you for the quick answer and also congrats for the effort & results developing this great app!

Ok, I've performed a cleanup and re-added the widget on my screen.
Impact: 'my location' still doesn't work, it cannot detect my current location :(
I won't be able to test soon the the auto-detection of new location since I have no opportunity to leave my town in the next following days.

I'll come back later if anything changed in this area.

      Best regards!

  3. Hi,
when I have internet connection activated (both WiFi and 3G), the application starts continuosly GPS, implying a battery drain. GPS locator is deactivated in settings, the location is set to automatic. Whats wrong? Best regards and yhank you for developing this great app.

  5. NIce widget... i love it... but the time freezes even though i untick the enable optimization. and have to touch the widget to correct the time... i am on jb 4.2.1.

    1. Time freezing problems are caused by task killers or similar applications that kill the widget's update process. Make sure you are not using such an application or if you do, add the widget to its white-list.

    1. The error was caused by a change on the weather server. I have already released an update that fixes this. Once you upgrade everything should be back to normal.

  9. Can I have two of these widgets on a screen and have them display 2 different locations?

    1. No, you can't. What you can do though is add as many locations as you like (from the weather forecast screen) and than use the related hotspot (it is explained in the help file) to switch from one location to the other, directly from the widget.

  10. Hello Droid27,

First of all, let me say that I very much like the Transparent Weather Clock Widget. It is fantastic. Thank You.

    I found a major issue:

I am using HTC One. And I noticed that my phone shows continous GPS usage in the top bar on the home screen. Then I wondered even though I am not using GPS why does my phone consume GPS and hence drain the battery. Then I went to Power menu in Settings and saw that Transparent Weather Clock is using 82% of the battery. Then I drilled down further ans saw that this app used GPS for 3 hours and 48 minutes.

I checked the settings of this app and turned off the setting to allow this app to use GPS. Then on the next day, again the same result.

So there are 2 issues here:

    1) Heavy usage of GPS by this app
    2) The setting to disallow GPS usage for this app doesn't seem to work. It still uses GPS.

Please look into this bug urgently as this bug drains out the battery of the phone and I have to manually turn off the GPS for all the apps to prevent it.

    Thanks so much.

  11. I hate it. It was preloaded on my tablet, yet says that my tablet isn't compatible with it. I can get it off my homepage, but can't get rid of the app all together. The uninstall option isn't there. It's crap!

    1. Thank you for the feedback Robb.
Unfortunately this is not our problem. It looks like some manufacturers have illegally pre-loaded our app on their devices a long time ago. They also modified our application so that it does not display ads and made it incompatible with Google Play so that users cannot install newer versions of the application. The version you have is probably more than 5 years old, that is why it is not working. Unfortunately we cannot do anything about this (they also made it so that you cannot uninstall it).
